Youth counselling – like any form of therapy – is a unique experience for each client. The complexity of the issues someone is facing and how they are feeling when they start counselling play a significant part in the process.
This means some young people will only need to work with a counsellor for a short time, others for a more extended duration. You can, however, expect a youth counselling service delivered to the highest ethical and professional standards.
Conversations with counsellors are strictly confidential unless we are worried about your safety or the safety of someone else.
How much does youth counselling cost?
Youth counselling sessions with Chloe are a paid-for service and are charged at 70 euros an hour. However, subsidised counselling sessions are available. Reduced prices are also available for blocks of sessions paid in advance. Please contact me to see if I can help.
Counselling Techniques
Client Centered Therapy
When I work with young people, I start by building a rapport with my clients. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important, if not the most important, part of therapy. If the child or adolescent doesn’t trust me or feel safe in my care, no progress will be made.
I work with the individual and adapt evidence based techniques according to their apparent needs.
I use cognitive techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based type of therapy that focuses on thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and usually provides tangible coping skills to adolescents
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which helps adolescents build distress tolerance and is especially helpful for strong emotions.
Mindfulness approaches to support children and adolescents to relax their bodies and calm their minds.
Bilateral stimulation, helps resolve and release traumatic experiences through specific techniques involving eye movement and memory, which are related to the biological mechanisms activated in Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep.
Communication with family. Communication with caregivers is really important when counselling adolescents, and I keep communication as open as possible. To a large degree we are a product of our environment and therefore communication is key to help them.
